Electromagnetic Energy Notes
- Electromagnetic travels in a "transverse wave". It can pass through empty
space or a solid, liquid, or gas. - The speed of light is the speed of electromagnetic energy.
- Spectroscopes separate the wavelengths of light.
- R, O, Y, G, B, I, and V all have different wavelengths.
- Astronomers use this spectrum to support the idea of the Big Bang
Theory. - The Red Shift see how different galaxies turn towards the red or blue side
of the color spectrum. Blue means they are getting further away and red means
they are getting closer. - Blue is a hotter temperature because they have shorter wavelengths.
- Astronomers identify stars with the electromagnetic color spectrum colors.
They can see what types of elements are in them based on their colors. - They use radio waves to see how far away an object is. It travels at the
speed of light, and so we can see when it bounces and travels back. - This process is called echolocation, which is used by many mammals like
dolphins, some special humans, and bass. - The shorter the wavelengths, the more dangerous it will be.
- Color spectrum is not harmful.
- X-Rays have harmful waves.
- Sometimes, lead coats are put over a patient to block out x-ray
waves.
